Meaning: without doing something

How to use: Verb (dictionary form) + ことなしに（は）

Explain:
Use it in the case if the expression does not exist, if nothing is done, or with the expression of not doing anything, nothing will be like.

Example sentences:

1. 努力することなしに、成功を勝ち取ることは難しい。
doryoku suru koto nashi ni, seikou o kachitoru koto wa muzukashii.
It’s hard to become successful without putting any effort.

2. 親友は細かい事情を聞くことなしにすぐにお金を貸してくれた。
shin’yuu wa komakai jijou o kiku koto nashi ni sugu ni okane o kashite kureta.
My friend lent me money without asking for more details.

3. タバコを吸うことなしには一日もいられない。
tabako o suu koto nashi niwa ichinichi mo irarenai.
I can’t last a day without smoking cigarettes.

4. 人事部の許可を得ることなしに、勝手に休みを取ることはできない。
jinjibu no kyoka o eru koto nashi ni, katte ni yasumi o toru koto wa dekinai.
You can’t take a day off without getting permission from the personnel department.
