JLPT N1 Grammar: いかに (ikani)

Meaning: how; in what way; how much

How to use:
いかに + Verb
いかに + Noun
いかに + Adjective

Explain:
Used in the case of an expression that, whatever the state, the degree of things, the things in the previous clause, it is still established. opposite (though A is B still)

Example sentences:

1. この会合がいかに重要かを彼は全然わかっていない。
kono kaigou ga ikani juuyou ka o kare wa zenzen wakatte inai.
He has no idea how important this meeting is.

2. いかに考えてみても、みずからそれを説明することができなかった。
ikani kangaete mite mo, mizukara sore o setsumei suru koto ga dekinakatt
No matter how hard I thought, I could not contrive to explain it to myself.

3. いかに頭がよくても体が弱くてはこの仕事はつとまらない。
ikani atama ga yokute mo karada ga yowakute wa kono shigoto wa tsutomaranai.
No matter how smart you are, this work is boring if your body is weak.

4. 彼女の顔を見れば彼女がいかに幸せかがわかった。
kanojo no kao o mireba kanojo ga ikani shiawase ka ga wakatta.
Looking at her face showed how happy she was.
