JLPT N1 Grammar: といえども (to ie domo)

Meaning: even if; even though

How to use:
Verb (casual) + といえ（ども）
Noun + といえども

Explain:
Although … but, certainly …. but
Although (people) are at that level, (~ is a high level example given)

Example sentences:

1. たとえ兄弟といえども、憎しみあうこともある。
tatoe kyoudai to ie domo, nikushimiau koto mo aru.
Even siblings sometimes hate each other.

2. 幼児といえども彼の名は知っている。
youji to ie domo kare no na wa shitte iru.
Even babies know his name.

3. あなたといえども弱味がある。
anata to iedomo yowami ga aru.
Even you have weaknesses.

4. 25歳といえども、まだ大学生なのながら、結婚は早いと母は言う。
25-Sai to ie domo, mada daigakuseina nonagara, kekkon wa hayai to haha wa iu.
My father said that even though was 25 years old, he was still a student so getting married was too early.

5. 会社の社長といえども、簡単には社員を首にすることはできない。
kaisha no shachou to ie domo, kantan ni wa shain o kubi ni suru koto wa dekinai.
Even the company president cannot just simply fire an employee.
