Japanese Vocabulary about Trash and Recycling
You need to clean your trash and separate it in Japan, as well as the vocabulary that you will need to understand signs associated with it:
– Regular Garbage
– Recyclables
– Plastic Container Recyclables
– Non-burnable Garbage
– Oversized Garbage

If you moved into a new place, and don’t know where to put the trash away, you can ask real estate agent or landlord.

Where should I put the trash away?
1. ごみを出す (gomi o dasu ) – put garbage away
2. 資源しげん (shigen), リサイクル – recycle
3. 容器ようき包装ほうそう (youki housou)- plastic containers
4. ごみ を分別ふんべつする (bunbetsu suru) – to separate trash
5. ごみ を収集しゅうしゅうする (shuushuu) – to collect trash
6. 発砲はっぽうトレイ (happou torei) – foam tray
7. 発砲はっぽうスチロール (happou suchiro-ru) – foam boxes
8. 古紙こし (koshi) – used paper
9. びん (bin) – glass bottle
10. 缶かん (kan) – can
11. ペットボトル (petto botoru) – plastic bottle
12. 粗大そだいごみ (sodai gomi) – oversized garbage
13. 粗大そだいごみ処理しょり券 けん(sodai gomi shori ken) – oversized garbage disposal sticker
14. 燃もやすごみ (moyasu gomi) – burnable garbage
15. 可燃かねんごみ (kanen gomi) – burnable garbage
16. 燃もやさないごみ (moyasanai gomi) – un-burnable garbage
17. 不燃ふねんごみ (funen gomi)- un-burnable garbage
18. 生なまごみ (nama gomi)- raw garbage
