Some Useful Japanese Phrases for Telephone Conversations

Here are some super useful phrases you can use
もしもし — moshi moshi → Hello (used when answering the phone)

お電話番号は何番ですか？ — o-denwa bangou wa nanban desu ka? → What is your phone number?

この番号に電話してもらえますか？ — kono bangou ni denwa shite moraemasu ka? → Could you call this number?

電話に出てください。 — denwa ni dete kudasai. → Please answer the phone.

回線が込み合っています。 — kaisen ga komiatteimasu. → The line is busy.

どちら様ですか？ — dochira sama desu ka? → Who is this, please?

ハリさんをお願いします。 — Hari-san o onegaishimasu. → May I speak to Mr./Ms. Hari?

お電話が遠いのですが。 — o-denwa ga toui no desu ga. → I can’t hear you clearly.

聞こえますか？ — kikoemasu ka? → Can you hear me?

もう一度お願いします。 — mou ichido onegaishimasu. → Please say that again.

メッセージを残しますか？ — messeeji o nokoshimasu ka? → Would you like to leave a message?

電話します。 — denwa shimasu. → I’ll call you.

後で電話します。 — ato de denwa shimasu. → I’ll call you later.

間違い電話です。 — machigai denwa desu. → You have the wrong number.

失礼します。 — shitsurei shimasu. → Goodbye (formal way to end the call).
