JLPT N5 Grammar: がほしい (ga hoshii)

Meaning: want

How to use: N + がほしい

Explain:
This sentence pattern expresses the speaker’s desire to possess something or someone. It is also used to ask about the listener’s desires.
The object of desire is indicated by the particle [が] [ほしい] which is an adjective ending in [い]

For example:
1. 私はお金がほしいです
Watashi wa okane ga hoshiidesu
I want money

2. 私は友達が欲しいです。
Watashi wa tomodachi ga hoshiidesu.
I want to have friends

3. 今、何が一番欲しいですか?
Ima, nani ga ichiban hoshiidesu ka?
What do you want most now?

Attention:
Since it is an adjective ending in い , the negation of 「ほしい」 is 「ほしくない」 which means not wanting.

子供がほしいですか? いいえ、欲しいくないです。
Kodomo ga hoshiidesu ka? iie, hoshii kunaidesu.
Do you want to have children? No, I do not want

Attention:
The sentence pattern cannot be used to express the desire of a third person. Sentence patterns cannot be used to invite the listener to use something or do something.
