JLPT N3 Grammar: ながらも (nagara mo)

Meaning: but; although; despite ~

Explain: Expression of the opposite, contrary to common thinking, contrary to imagination. The subject of the former and the latter is the same.

How to use:
Verb ます (stem form) + ながら（も）
Verb-てform + いながら（も）
Noun + ながら（も）
Adjective + ながら（も）

For example:
1. 残念ながら、その点で君を信用することはできないようだ。
zannen nagara, sono ten de kimi o shin’you suru koto wa dekinai you da.
I very much fear that I cannot trust you in the matter.

2. 残念ながら、結婚式には出席できません。
zan’nen’nagara, kekkonshiki ni wa shusseki dekimasen.
I’m sorry, but I couldn’t attend the wedding ceremony

3. ゆっくりながらも作業は少しずつ進んでいる。
yukkurinagara mo sagyō wa sukoshi zutsu susunde iru.
Although slow, the work is still growing step by step

4. 狭いながらもようやく自分の持ち家を手に入れることができた。
semainagara mo yōyaku jibun no mochiie o te ni ireru koto ga dekita.
Although it’s narrow, I finally have a house for myself

5. 多くの困難に直面しながらも、彼は、明るい未来を自力で何とか作り上げた。
ooku no konnan ni chokumen shinagara mo, kare wa, akarui mirai o jiriki de nantoka tsukuriageta.
Facing many challenges, he managed to sculpt a bright future for himself.
