JLPT N3 Grammar: わけではない (wake dewa nai)

Meaning: it doesn’t mean that; I don’t mean that; it is not true that

Explain:
Used to negate only 1 (single negation) statement or fact, the fact in question Indicates the objective fact, based on objective factors, gives a negative opinion,「わけにはいかない」 again express personal subjective ideas, based on personal opinions, give negative ideas

How to use:
Verb-casual + わけではない/わけじゃない
いadjective + わけではない/わけじゃない
なadjective + なわけではない/なわけじゃない
Noun + (だ)というわけではない/(だ)というわけじゃない

For example:
1. このレストランはいつも客がいっぱいだか、だからといって特別においしいわけではない。
kono resutoran wa itsumo kyaku ga ippaida ka, dakaratoitte tokubetsu ni oishī wakede wanai.
This restaurant is always full of customers, but that doesn’t mean the food is particularly good.

2. 私はふだんあんまり料理をしないが、料理が嫌いなわけではない。忙しくてやる暇がないだけなのだ。
watashi wa fudan anmari ryōri o shinaiga, ryōri ga kiraina wakede wanai. Isogashikute yaru hima ga nai dakena noda.
Usually I don’t cook much, but that doesn’t mean I hate cooking. Just because I’m too busy, I don’t have time to cook

3. わたしにしてもくわしい事情を知っているわけではない。
watashi ni shite mo kuwashii jijou o shitte iru wake dewa nai.
I don’t know any more about it than you do.

4. わたしは金のために取引をするわけではない。
watashi wa kane no tame ni torihiki o suru wake dewa nai.
I don’t do business for the money.

Attention:
わ けではない is very often used together with 「だからといって」「特に」「別に」 to emphasize with the complete negation of the content being mentioned.
