JLPT N2 Grammar: にもかかわらず (nimo kakawarazu)

Meaning: despite; in spite of; nevertheless; although

How to use:
Verb-casual + にもかかわらず
Noun + （である）にもかかわらず
いadj + にもかかわらず
なadj + （である）にもかかわらず

For example:
1. あれだけ努力したにもかかわらず、すべて失敗に終わってしまった。
are dake doryoku shita nimokakawarazu, subete shippai ni owatte shimatta.
In spite of all their efforts, they all ended in failure.

2. 規則で禁止されているにもかかわらず、彼はバイクで通学した。
kisoku de kinshi sa rete iru nimokakawarazu, kare wa baiku de tsūgaku shita.
He went to school by motorcycle even though the rules prohibited it.

3. 悪条件にもかかわらず、無事登頂に成功した。
akujōken nimokakawarazu, buji tōchō ni seikō shita.
Despite the bad weather, I managed to climb to the top peacefully

4. それで、孤独にあったにもかかわらず、彼の生活は、なみはずれて充実していた。
sore de, kodoku ni atta ni mo kakawarazu, kare no seikatsu wa, namihazurete juujitsu shite ita.
In spite of his solitude, his life was exceedingly full.

5. 彼女が落ち着いていようとつとめたにもかかわらず、その唇は震えていた。
kanojo ga ochitsuite iyou to tsutometa ni mo kakawarazu, sono kuchibiru wa furuete ita.
In spite of her efforts to be calm, her lips were quivering.
