JLPT N3 Grammar: あまり (amari)

Meaning: so much… that

How to use:
Verb-dictionary form + あまり
Verb-casual, past + あまり
Noun + のあまり

For example:
1. その夜は興奮のあまり、僕はなかなか寝つけなかった。
sono yoru wa koufun no amari, boku wa nakanaka netsukenakatta.
After the excitement of the night, I slept late.

2. 突然わたしは小雪にとびついて興奮のあまり彼女をゆすぶった。
totsuzen watashi wa koyuki ni tobitsuite koufun no amari kanojo o yusubutta.
Suddenly I flew at Koyuki and almost shook her in my excitement.

3. 喜びのあまり、万歳と叫びたい思いだった。
yorokobi no amari, banzai to sakebitai omoi datta.
I wanted to shout with joy.

4. しばらくは心配のあまり、眠れない夜がつづきました。
shibaraku wa shinpai no amari, nemurenai yoru ga tsuzukimashita.
For a while I was so worried I couldn’t sleep.
