JLPT N3 Grammar: ふと (futo)
Meaning: suddenly; accidentally; unexpectedly; unintentionally
How to use: ふと + action
For example:
1. ふと気がつくと、Ｔシャツが体に張りついていた。
futo ki ga tsuku to, tishatsu ga karada ni haritsuite ita.
After a moment he became aware that his T-shirt was sticking to him.
2. 僕はふと、彼女の声があまり乗り気ではないのに気づいた。
boku wa futo, kanojo no koe ga amari noriki dewanai no ni kizuita.
I couldn’t help noticing that she did not sound very enthusiastic.
3. 彼女がふとこちらを見てわたしと目が合った。
kanojo ga futo kochira o mite watashi to me ga atta.
Then she looked over and saw me watching her.
4. 彼は、ふとぎくりとして、我に返った。
kare wa, futo gikuri toshite, ware ni kaetta.
He roused himself with a slight start.
